Active Days and Outdoor Studio are collaborating on a creative adventure to chase waterfalls and hike through Glacial Valleys.

Our day will start off with a hike through this magical space that is closer to home than you think. The Dundas Valley lies within Hamilton, but you would never know it. This conservation area contains waterfalls, forests, meadows, rivers and unique geological formations. The forest will be filled with fall colours making this special place even more beautiful.

After hiking and taking in the stunning beauty of the falls, you will have a choice. You can continue hiking further or you can slow down, reflect and create. For those who want to tap into their creativity, you will have the opportunity to stop and explore your connection with the outdoors through simple writing and art activities. We will bring all the supplies you need but if you want to bring your own art or writing materials, you're more than welcome to do so.

Don't think you're creative or "artsy" enough to join our creative jam? Not to worry - no previous experience is required. Creativity isn't a skill (and we're definitely not looking for the next Picasso or Hemingway) - it's a state of mind. All you need is your imagination to run wild with creativity in the outdoors!

There is a 450 million year old geologic history here and we will be walking through the biodiverse Carolinian Forest that can be found nowhere else in Canada. Along the way, we will encounter three breathtaking waterfalls - Tiffany, Sherman and Canterbury Falls.

This is a trip not to be missed. Come out and make new friends, visit new places and see how the outdoors is closer to the city than you think.

To us, facilitating this event is about creating an environment that you can engage with in your own way. This is your experience and everyone has their own relationship with the outdoors and their bodies. We want to meet you where you are at — you can explore by yourself or in a group. We will have a variety of groups walking at different paces. We're not geological experts though we will share all we know about the forest and landscape. Come with us and walk in silence, create, play 20 questions and get to know some new people.

ActiveDays is also a community. This is an inclusive space to meet new people, share stories and have fun! To us, there is no better place to get to know someone than the outdoors. We all share a desire to get out, explore and stretch our legs.

We will also be providing everyone a map and some information on some of the geology of the region.

We will return to Toronto by 5pm.

Walker Kitchens is ActiveDays Program Coordinator, and he loves learning outdoors. Childhood summers spent outside in Ontario and Newfoundland fostered a deep curiosity within him that continues to grow. This desire to explore led him abroad. After two years of working as a facilitator in Cambodia and India, Walker has returned home to Toronto keen to venture back into the Canadian environment. Knowledge sharing and community building energize him and he is excited to help build a community that is eager to share ideas, stories and skills in a collaborative way. When you see him, ask him to tell you a story and make sure to share with him a passion, skill or story of your own.
