We invite you to come out and explore the incredible waterfalls and glacial valleys that are closer than you think. The Dundas Valley lies within Hamilton — but you would never know it. This conservation area contains waterfalls, forests, meadows, rivers and unique geological formations. The forest will be filled with fall colours making this special place even more beautiful The Dundas Valley spreads out into Lake Ontario and is part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere.
There is a 450 million year old geologic history here and we will be walking through the biodiverse Carolinian Forest that can be found nowhere else in Canada. Along the way, we will encounter three breathtaking waterfalls — Tiffany, Sherman and Canterbury Falls.
This is a trip not to be missed. Come out and make new friends, visit new places and see how the outdoors is closer to the city than you think.
Lunch is not included — bring a packed lunch and water for yourself.
We will depart Toronto from our two pick up locations at 8:45am and 9am to get a good start on the day. We will arrive at Tiffany Falls at 9:15am. We will explore the waterfall and then continue on a 3-4 hour hike that will pass through the Dundas Valley and by Sherman and Canterbury Falls. The trail is a mix of narrow trail, compact trail and even a kilometer on dirt roads. This is an accessible trail that is easy to moderate in difficulty.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH ACTIVEDAYS
To us, facilitating this event is about creating an environment that you can engage with in your own way. This is your experience and everyone has their own relationship with the outdoors and their bodies. We want to meet you where you are at — you can hike, swim and explore by yourself or in a group. We will have a variety of groups walking at different paces. We’re not geological experts — but we’ll share all we know about the forest and landscape. Come with us and walk in silence, play 20 questions or just get to know some new people.
ActiveDays is also a community. This is an inclusive space to meet new people, share stories and have fun! To us, there is no better place to get to know someone than the outdoors. We all share a desire to get out, explore and stretch our legs.
We will also be providing everyone a map and some information on some of the geology of the region.
We will return to Toronto by 5pm.
- Lunch (nut free please!)

YOUR HIKE LEADER: WALKER KITCHENS
Walker Kitchens is ActiveDays Program Coordinator, and he loves learning outdoors. Childhood summers spent outside in Ontario and Newfoundland fostered a deep curiosity within him that continues to grow. This desire to explore led him abroad. After two years of working as a facilitator in Cambodia and India, Walker has returned home to Toronto keen to venture back into the Canadian environment. Knowledge sharing and community building energize him and he is excited to help build a community that is eager to share ideas, stories and skills in a collaborative way. When you see him, ask him to tell you a story and make sure to share with him a passion, skill or story of your own.
