This summer, step aboard Parkbus for a one-of-a-kind journey to the brand new Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough. It’s not just a museum—it's a hands-on, paddle-powered celebration of the watercraft that shaped Canada.

This immersive day trip combines history, exploration, and an unforgettable Voyageur canoe paddle, all set against the backdrop of scenic waterways and lush green space.

About the Canadian Canoe Museum

The new Canadian Canoe Museum is unlike anything else in the world. Home to the largest and most significant collection of paddled watercraft, the museum showcases how canoes, kayaks, and paddling shaped Canada’s identity, culture, and communities. Whether you're into Indigenous traditions, northern expeditions, or good old-fashioned craftsmanship—there's something here for you.

Plus, it’s now located right on the water, where you’ll get to paddle in a traditional 36-foot Voyageur canoe and experience history in motion.

Visit Lift Lock 21 – Engineering Marvel of the Trent-Severn Waterway

After a day at the Canoe Museum, the adventure continues with a guided stop at Lift Lock 21, one of the most impressive feats of engineering in Canada.

Built in 1904 and still in operation today, Lift Lock 21 is the highest hydraulic boat lift in the world. It raises and lowers boats nearly 20 metres using gravity and counterbalance. No electricity required. On this short walking tour led by Parks Canada staff, you’ll learn how the lock works, hear about its place in Canadian history, and watch boats "ride the elevator" up and down.

It’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at a working piece of industrial heritage, nestled into the scenic Trent-Severn Waterway.
