Step Back in Time - Guided Hike at Westfield Heritage Village

Join us for a guided Active Days hike through Westfield Heritage Village Conservation Area.
This 204-hectare site features nearly 8 kilometres of accessible, well-marked trails passing through natural woodlands, plantation forests, and provincially significant wetlands. You'll start by walking through one of Ontario's most unique living history sites—35 restored 19th-century buildings—before heading into the forest where old farm ruins hide among the trees. Late March is a great time to catch early signs of spring on the trail.

Join the group hike, or wander at your own pace. There's no pressure to perform, just space to explore in nature and in conversation. New trails. New people. New stories.
Pickup Locations
What kind of bus is this?
This trip runs on a school bus. Don't worry, Westfield is a short ride from Toronto, and the bus is heated. It's a comfortable way to get out of the city without the hassle of driving.
What can I expect from this guided Active Days hike?
This is an inclusive, social hiking experience where you can engage at whatever level feels comfortable. There may be multiple groups hiking at different paces, or you can explore sections on your own. The guides create opportunities for connection without any pressure to participate in a particular way.
How difficult are the trails at Westfield?
The trails are beginner-friendly, with flat, crushed stone surfaces wide enough for three people to walk side-by-side. The accessible design makes this hike suitable for all fitness levels, though you'll want sturdy footwear for late-winter trail conditions.
What will we see on the hike?
The trail system passes through natural woodlands, plantation forests, meadows, and provincially significant wetlands. You'll encounter old farm ruins dating back over 100 years, and in late March you may spot early signs of spring like red maple flowers, returning birds, and the first daffodils. The historic village with its 35 restored buildings makes for a unique starting point.
What should I bring?
Dress in layers—March weather can be unpredictable. Waterproof boots are recommended as trails may be muddy. Bring water, snacks, and a packed lunch. Tick season begins in early spring, so long pants tucked into socks and bug repellent are advisable.
Are there washroom facilities?
Yes, Westfield has modern washroom facilities available near the village area.
Is this trip suitable for solo travellers?
Absolutely. Active Days trips are designed to foster organic social connections. Many participants come on their own and find it's a great way to meet like-minded people who enjoy nature.
Can I bring my dog?
Please check with Parkbus directly regarding pet policies for this specific trip.
What if I want to explore the heritage village buildings?
The historic buildings are typically only open during special program days, not for general trail access. This trip focuses on the hiking experience, though you'll walk through the village and can admire the exterior of buildings including the oldest log church in Ontario and an 1896 railway station.
