Board the coach in Vancouver and by lunchtime you are amongst thousands of eagles, not a highway rest stop. This is a weekend built around the season of the wild: eagle viewing, the history of the valley, and the most magical time of the year at Lights by the Lake, with someone else doing the driving both ways.

In partnership with Tourism Harrison

This weekend is put together with Tourism Harrison, the destination organisation for the Harrison River Valley. They know the valley, the eagle run and the lights, and the hotels below are their partners too.

How this one works

Two bookings, one weekend

You book your seat and your experiences with us. You book your own room with one of the hotels below. Both take about five minutes, and the second one matters as much as the first, because the coach only picks up in Harrison Village and at the Sasquatch Inn.

The weekend

Hour by hour, both days

Both weekends run exactly the same way. Your times are on your ticket.

SaturdayVancouver to Harrison
  1. 9:00 AM

    Leave Vancouver

The coach leaves Vancouver at 9:00 AM and swings through Surrey at 10:00 AM to pick up more passengers. From there it is a straight shot out to the Harrison River Valley. The exact spot in each city is on your ticket and in the email we send the week before, so you are not guessing on the morning.

  2. 11:30 AM

Lunch at Sasq’ets Burgers and Cafe, on us

Lunch is included in your ticket. Once you have eaten, head out to the eagle viewing tower on your own time. This stretch of the Harrison River hosts the largest winter gathering of bald eagles in the world, and from the tower you are looking straight down at them working the shallows. Bring binoculars. You have until 1:30 to eat, wander and watch.

  3. 1:30 PM

    Back on the bus

Twenty minutes later we pull into Kilby Provincial Park and Kilby Historic Site.

  4. 1:50 PM

    Kilby Historic Site

A general store, hotel and farm frozen at 1930s rural British Columbia, sitting right where the Harrison River meets the Fraser. You have two hours here, and the programming at the historic site is included in your ticket. If you would rather just be outside, you can wander the riverside around Kilby Historic Site and the Kilby Park Campground instead.

  5. 4:00 PM

    On to Harrison Village

A short hop, and we are in the village by 4:30. Staying in the village? Check in and drop your bags before the lights. Staying at the Sasquatch Inn? Leave your bags on the bus, they are safe there all evening.

  6. 5:00 PM

    Lights by the Lake

Get ready for a night of magic. Take photos with Santa and Sasquatch, and watch Harrison glow.

  7. 8:00 PM

The bus runs the Sasquatch Inn group out

Staying at the Sasquatch Inn? Your bags stay safely on the bus all evening, we collect you in the village at 8:00 PM and you check in at the door at 8:30. Your Parkbus staff are with the group all evening and will point out exactly where the coach waits before the lights start, and it is in your email the week before too. Staying in the village, you checked in when we arrived and your evening is your own.

SundayHarrison to Vancouver
  1. 9:15 AM

    Pickup at the Sasquatch Inn

If you stayed at the Sasquatch Inn, the coach collects you and your bags. Everyone else makes their own way to the museum.

  2. 10:00 AM

Everyone meets at the Sasquatch Museum

The museum is in your ticket. Take in British Columbia’s favourite cryptid, guided or at your own pace. Your bags go back on the bus, which is parked in the village for the rest of the day.

  3. 10:30 AM

Eagle viewing by boat, if you booked it

Booked the Shoreline Tours boat? Walk the fifteen minutes from the museum, or ride the bus for the five minute drive to the dock. The tour starts promptly at 11:00 AM, so be there fifteen minutes early. Meals can be bought on board, or bring your own.

  4. Late morning

The rest of the morning is yours

Once you have had the museum, which is in your ticket, the morning is free. Wander the village, browse the shops, or get a dip in at the Harrison Mineral Baths before heading out. The pools at the resort are for resort guests, so the baths are the one anybody on this bus can walk into.

  5. 2:30 PM

    Home

We roll out of Harrison Hot Springs, back through Surrey around 4:00 PM, and into Vancouver around 5:00 PM.

Two hours on Saturday

Kilby Historic Site

Kilby is one of the last reminders of Harrison Mills, a boom and bust town on the Harrison River. The buildings date from the 1880s on, and at the heart of it is the 1906 Kilby General Store, now a museum full of original things you are allowed to pick up. There is a café, and there are farm animals with a great deal of personality.

Your host meets the group in the car park and sets up the history of Harrison Mills, and after that the two hours are yours. Every season brings something different.

  • Saturday 5 DecemberScheduled activities run all day on site: make an Edwardian Christmas card, try the spiced apple cider, and watch a Christmas love story.

Entry and the programming are in your Parkbus ticket.

The ride

A proper coach, both ways

Reclining seats, big windows, heat, and a washroom on board. It is two hours out of Vancouver and you spend it watching the Fraser Valley go by instead of watching the road. The same coach carries your bags all weekend, so you are never dragging a suitcase through the village, and it is parked in Harrison on Sunday while you wander.

“Highly recommend them for Joffre’s Lake or even Golden Ears/Garibaldi trip. The bus service is so useful for people who doesn’t want to drive and gives return facility. They were on time and bus facility was good too. Total worth the cost if you want to avoid hassle driving/parking.”

Questions

What is in the Parkbus ticket?
Return travel from Vancouver and Surrey on a full-size coach, Saturday lunch at Sasq’ets Burgers and Cafe, time at the eagle viewing tower, the programming at Kilby Historic Site, Lights by the Lake, the Sasquatch Museum on Sunday, and Parkbus staff with you all weekend. Your room and the Sunday boat tour are booked separately.
Why do I book my own room?
The hotels in Harrison Hot Springs sell their own rooms, and our partners give Parkbus travellers a discount, so you book directly with them and get the better rate. What matters to us is where you stay: the coach collects everyone in Harrison Village, or at the Sasquatch Inn.
What if I stay somewhere that is not on your list?
That is fine, as long as it is in Harrison Village and you can get yourself to the meeting point with your bags on Sunday morning. If you are outside the village, the bus cannot collect you.
How do I book the boat tour?
Directly with Shoreline Tours. It runs three hours and costs $129, and the code PARKBUS10 takes 10% off at checkout. It is optional, and the rest of the group has the morning free in the village.
What should I bring?
Binoculars if you have them, warm layers for standing still outside in November, and a camera. Everything else is a normal weekend away.
