So, here's the thing about a fall fair. The fair is the easy part. Getting to it is what puts people off.
Rockton started in 1852 as the Beverly Agricultural Society Fair, and has gone by the World's Fair in Rockton since 1878. In all that time it has missed six years: 1917 and 1918, 1942 through 1944, and 2020. Everything else, it has run.
It is now one of the largest agricultural and livestock events in Canada, with roughly fifty thousand people through the gates over Thanksgiving weekend. Their own phrase for what they are doing is bringing urban and rural together, and on a Saturday that means a 4-H beef show at nine in the morning and a demolition derby at seven at night, on the same patch of ground.
In between there is a midway, a giant pumpkin championship, a horse show, a poultry and rabbit barn, a craft centre, and a pie eating contest with a class for couples.

Just north of the Yonge and Bloor subway stop. Come up the Asquith exit and look for the bus.
Campbell Amusements runs the midway, with kiddie, family and thrill rides. It opens at eleven and runs until ten at night, so it is there whenever you drift back to it. Rides are not part of the gate: the fair sells ride coupons and all-day wristbands on site, and you can also buy a wristband in advance through them.
Good to know:
This is the agricultural half, and it starts before most people have finished breakfast. The Agridome runs the Rockton 4-H Finale Beef Show at nine, the Wentworth Beef 4-H Club Achievement at ten and the 4-H Inter-County Beef Show at eleven. Over at the North Wentworth Showring the Hunter and Gymkhana Horse Show goes at nine. You can stand at the rail for any of it.
Good to know:
One building runs contests all day, and they are the part people tell their friends about. The Spelling Bee is at half nine and is for grade four and five only. The Summit Station Milk Mustache Contest is at noon. The Pie Eating Contest is at three, with classes for men, women and couples. Karaoke starts at half seven in the evening. Each one takes registrations half an hour to an hour before it starts, so turning up to watch is easy and turning up to enter takes a little planning.
Good to know:
The Giant Pumpkin Championship weighs in at half ten on the Meeting Place Stage, which is exactly the spectacle it sounds like. The Ag-Alive tent runs from nine in the morning to nine at night, the craft show and sale is on in the Craft Centre, and the school fair and agricultural exhibits are up all weekend. Doug The Great does stiltwalking and magic around the grounds. Stages run entertainment from quarter past twelve to quarter past four: illusionists, comedy jugglers, circus acts and farm shows.
Good to know:
The derby is the fair's loudest hour and it runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Saturday's card is Power Wheels, Demo Cross, Youth Impact Compact, Impact Compact, Mad Dog Junk Run and Stock Trucks, starting at seven in the Beverly Heritage Showring. Whether you see it depends on when the bus leaves, and that time is not settled yet, so please check it before you plan your evening around this.

The bus returns to the same place it left from, so you go home the way you came.

A fair day is a standing-around day. Most of what matters is on your feet and your back.
Your ticket covers the bus both ways and getting through the gate. The midway belongs to Campbell Amusements, who sell ride coupons and all-day wristbands at the fair and online in advance. If the rides are the reason somebody is coming, budget for them separately.
Most of this happens on grass and gravel in the second week of October, with show rings and a midway that are open to the sky. Closed shoes, layers and something waterproof. There is plenty of food on site and plenty of it indoors, so a wet hour is not the end of the day.

Cancel more than 14 days before departure and you get a 90% refund, with 10% withheld for payment processing. Inside 14 days refunds are not available, except for a medical emergency in the 48 hours before departure, which needs a signed doctor’s note within 14 days of the missed trip and returns 50%. Tickets are transferable: you can change the passenger name up to 48 hours before departure.
If Parkbus cancels a trip, you get a full refund. We decide no later than 48 hours before departure and only on confirmed conditions: the park closed or the park authority asking us to stand down, an evacuation order or alert, an area restriction order, the highway closed, or the trip judged unsafe to run. A forecast is not one of those things, and trips run rain or shine.
