How to Visit Canada Parks This Summer: Your Complete Canada Strong Pass Guide with VIA Rail + Parkbus

The Canada Strong Pass is back for another summer, and Canadians have a second chance to explore the country's national parks for free. Running from June 19 to September 7, 2026, the federal program waives Parks Canada admission fees and unlocks discounted travel on VIA Rail.
Parkbus, an official partner to both VIA Rail and Parks Canada, makes the experience easier still β connecting train stations and city centres directly to the parks themselves. No car, no parking, no stress.
Quick math, before we go any further: a family of four going from Toronto to Bruce Peninsula National Park can save $75β100+ on a single trip, just by stacking the pass with VIA Rail and Parkbus. And we've gone further β Parkbus is running completely free shuttles in Toronto and Edmonton this summer, with discounted trips across the rest of the country.

How Parkbus Fits In
Parkbus is on a mission to get more people out to see Canada's beautiful parks and outdoor spaces. We've been doing it for sixteen years β since 2010, more than 200,000 Canadians and visitors have ridden with us β and we're proud to partner with Parks Canada and VIA Rail to make the Canada Strong Pass go even further.
VIA Rail moves people across the country. Parks Canada protects the destinations. Parkbus closes the gap between them.
VIA Rail services more than 600 stations across Canada, but most national parks are still hours from the nearest one. Parkbus operates affordable, car-free shuttle services from VIA Rail stations and major urban centres directly to the trailhead β and this summer, we're going further than ever:
- Free shuttles in Toronto to Rouge National Urban Park
- Free shuttles in Edmonton to Elk Island National Park
- Discounted trips across Canada β from the Bruce Peninsula to Kejimkujik, Coquihalla Canyon to Waterton Lakes
The full journey looks like this:
- Book your VIA Rail trip using Canada Strong Pass codes (kids ride free, ages 18β24 save 25%).
- Arrive at your VIA Rail station β Toronto, London, Halifax, Edmonton, or another hub.
- Connect to Parkbus for direct service to the park. Pickup and drop-off locations vary by city and trip β check the individual trip pages on parkbus.ca for exact details.
- Walk into the park for free β no admission, no day-pass paperwork.
- Save 25% on camping if you're staying overnight.

Why Train + Bus Beats the Car
Choosing VIA Rail and Parkbus over driving isn't just about saving money β though you will. It's also:
- Lower carbon emissions per passenger than driving
- No parking fees at busy parks (which can run $15β25 per day)
- No vehicle costs β no gas, no wear and tear, no insurance deductibles
- Less stress β no winding mountain roads, no GTA traffic, no missed turns
- Genuinely accessible β urban Canadians without cars, families travelling together, and international visitors can all reach the parks the same way
You watch the country go by out the window instead of gripping a steering wheel. That's the trip.

β
Don't Forget Provincial Parks
The Canada Strong Pass covers Parks Canada sites. But Canada's provincial parks system is just as much a part of the country's outdoor identity, and Parkbus runs to plenty of them too.
Algonquin Provincial Park is the granddaddy of Canadian park experiences β Group of Seven landscapes, moose, and the country's most iconic canoe routes. Parkbus runs day trips and overnight stays at our Four Corners Algonquin basecamp. Browse Algonquin trips β
Killarney Provincial Park offers white quartzite ridges and the painted-by-A.Y.-Jackson La Cloche range. Browse Killarney trips β
Pinery, Grand Bend, and Point Farms are summer staples on the Lake Huron shoreline β easy escapes from London and Kitchener. Browse Pinery & Point Farms β
Dinosaur Provincial Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the world's richest fossil beds. Parkbus runs day trips and dark-sky stargazing nights from Calgary. Browse Dinosaur Park trips β
Garibaldi and Golden Ears anchor the Vancouver day-trip lineup with alpine lakes and old-growth forest. Browse Garibaldi β Β· Browse Golden Ears β
Provincial parks may charge their own day-use or camping fees, but they're often less crowded than the national headliners β and many are spectacular in their own right. A summer that mixes both is a better summer.
